cyanotype project

IMG_0213.PNG

In this exclusive illustration for Dendezeiro, I explore the cyanotype process through a photograph of the cattle egret, a bird commonly found across the Pantanal's ranching landscapes. Often recognized through its association with cattle rather than its own wild identity, the egret embodies the subtle coexistence between the natural and the domesticated that has shaped the region for generations.

The print also incorporates heirloom corn, an ancestral crop that carries stories of biodiversity, adaptation, and resistance through traditional agriculture. Together, these elements speak to the layered relationships between people, land, and nonhuman life in the Pantanal.

Through cyanotype, I seek not only an aesthetic gesture but another way of revealing the territory. Much like the egret and the heirloom corn make visible histories of coexistence, the deep blue process brings forth a more contemplative Pantanal—one shaped by memory, interdependence, and the overlapping worlds of the wild and the cultivated.
